A simple but delicious way to make flavourful and versatile crispy tofu in the oven. Great with dips and sauces, in curries and salads, with rice or as an appetizer.
Drain the extra-firm tofu, and cut it into slices approximately ¾ inch or 1.5/2cm thick. Lay these slices on a clean kitchen towel, fold the towel over them and press them to dry the surface. Repeat to remove excess moisture.
Cut the tofu slices into cubes and place into a large bowl.
Add the soy sauce and pepper and stir with a spatula. Let sit for 5 minutes to soak in the soy sauce and stir again.
Add the nutritional yeast and stir it in.
Next sprinkle on the cornstarch and stir.
Finally, add the oil and stir to coat the tofu cubes.
Grease a baking sheet with a light coating of oil and then spread out the tofu pieces in a single layer, leaving space between the cubes.
Bake at 200℃ / 390℉ for 20 minutes until dark golden brown.
Notes
Tofu: If your tofu is not extra-firm, then you will want to press it before using it for this recipe. See the post for tips on how to press tofu.
