One of the best ways to reduce the environmental impact of gift giving is to give second hand. I actually used to run a business selling vintage clothes and homewares, and it's such a great way to find unique items, that are planet and wallet friendly.
For online shopping, Etsy is a great place to hunt down the perfect one-of-a-kind find. Filter by item type: Vintage for preloved treasures! And watch out for non vegan items such as bone china and animal skin or fibres.

Vegan Gift Shopping Tips
What makes a gift vegan?
When shopping or handmaking a vegan gift you'll want to avoid all materials derived from animals and products tested on animals.
Watch out for items with non vegan materials such as: Wool, Cashmere, Silk, Down, Leather, Bone and Beeswax.
With food items avoid anything containing ingredients such as: Milk and Dairy products, Eggs, Meat, Fish, Seafood and Honey.
To make sure when you're in doubt, look for the Vegan Trademark or a certified vegan label on the packaging.
There's also several 'E-number' additives that might be hiding in the ingredient list and that you want to avoid. This list by the Vegan Society helps you shed some light on these E-numbers.
Some alcohols may use animal products in the processing, so look for a vegan label or check on Barnivore.com.
Some items may have no animal products as ingredients, but have a May Contain warning. For example, this yummy vegan galaxy chocolate (which would make an awesome gift!) has a "may contain milk" warning due to where it is made. This means it is not suitable for those with a dairy allergy, but it's still good for vegans!
Again it's handy to check the packaging for the Vegan Trademark, or a certified vegan label, that way you can be sure!
