What’s more summery than a cold and creamy milkshake made with fresh strawberries?! You’ll love this vegan strawberry milkshake that has just three easy ingredients and is ready in just 5 minutes.

A tall, fluted glass full of light pink milkshake, decorated with whipped cream and grated chocolate, and a whole strawberrry on the rim. Another milkshake in the background, and strawberries scattered around.

Summer, sun and strawberries - aren't they the perfect combination? Hopefully it’s lovely and sunny where you are, and a vegan strawberry milkshake is just what you need to refresh you!

This milkshake is made with ice cream (vegan of course) so it’s extra creamy and indulgent.

The ingredients for the milkshake: fresh strawberries, plant based vanilla ice cream and oatmilk. A spoonful of sugar is optional.

    Ingredient tips

You can use fresh or frozen strawberries for this recipe. If your blender isn’t high powered enough to blend frozen fruit, just defrost your fruit first.

As strawberries can really vary in sweetness depending on their variety and how ripe they are, we’ve included an optional spoonful of sugar to help bring out the full flavour of less ripe fruits. Feel free to leave it out completely or add sugar to taste. You can also use maple syrup or another sweetener.

We used Swedish Glace vegan vanilla ice cream in our milkshakes, but other types should also work well. We also used oat milk, as we like it's neutral flavour, but feel free to use another creamy type of plant-based milk such as almond.

The shake after blending: A bubbly and creamy, pink mixture.

    Substitutions and variations

If you can’t get hold of vegan vanilla ice cream, then you can make a healthier vegan strawberry milkshake using frozen banana and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. We recommend you choose the brownest, most ripe bananas as they give a sweeter and creamier result. You can find banana freezing tips in our chocolate nice cream recipe.

Fancy something different next time? You can add a couple of fresh mint leaves to add a refreshing touch. Or why not try a different fruit and have a vegan blueberry milkshake instead?

    Serving

This vegan strawberry milkshake is best served immediately after blending, whilst it is still chilled.

For extra indulgence, you can top it with vegan whipped cream and some grated dark chocolate.

    Prep Time: 5 minutes minutes
    Total Time: 5 minutes minutes
    Makes: 2 shakes
    Course: Dessert, Drinks
    Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    • 1½ cups (225 g) strawberries
    • 1½ cups (190 g / 4 - 5 scoops) vegan vanilla ice cream
    • ¾ cups (190 ml) oat milk
    • 1 spoonful sugar * optional, to taste

    Decoration

    • vegan whipped cream
    • vegan chocolate grated

    Instructions

    • Wash the strawberries and cut off the leaves.
      1½ cups (225 g) strawberries
    • Place the strawberries, ice cream and oat milk in a blender or liquidiser and blend for 15-30 seconds, until smooth.
      1½ cups (190 g / 4 - 5 scoops) vegan vanilla ice cream, ¾ cups (190 ml) oat milk
    • Optional: Add sugar to taste when blending if the strawberries aren't very sweet, or if you just got a sweet tooth...
    • Serve immediately while cold.
Optionally decorate with vegan whipped cream, fresh strawberries, chocolate shreds, dried raspberries, sprinkles, or other toppings of your choice.

    Notes

    Sugar

    * We find the milkshake sweet enough without adding extra sugar, if the strawberries are reasonably ripe. You can always try the shake after blending, add sugar and blend again until you are happy with the sweetness.
